Sports Massage at Sports & Physiotherapy Ltd is provided by our highly qualified and skilled clinicians. It is used in elite sport as an adjunct to rehabilitation, to help with preparation and recovery.
Massage uses pressure to direct venous and lymphatic flow back towards the heart. It is therefore important that the movement is always in this direction so that there is no undue pressure on the closed valves in the veins. These valves prevent back flow of blood by only allowing blood to move in one direction (i.e. toward the heart). As the pressure from the heart pumping subsides and the blood moves back, the valves close and prevent any further back flow.
Massage may also be used to stretch muscle fibres and maintain their mobility

Your insurance company may insist that you have seen your GP first, although many are now accepting self-referral.
Self-funding patients can self-refer without needing to see their GP. After your initial treatment a clinic letter will be sent to you outlining the diagnosis and planned treatment.
